Research strategy

Brain Research Trust aims to fund world-class research into the prevention and treatment of neurological diseases and conditions. In the past 40 years the charity has supported a wide variety of different research areas. Brain Research Trust will consider funding any applications that fall within its Research Strategy which focuses on the following seven neurological themes:

  • Alzheimer’s Disease and other Dementias
  • Brain Tumours
  • Epilepsy
  • Multiple Sclerosis and other immune-mediated conditions
  • Movement disorders including Parkinson’s Disease
  • Neuro-muscular disorders
  • Stroke and other forms of brain damage

The main stream of funding provided by Brain Research Trust is an annual round of grants. The charity will consider funding a range of grants which may include:

  • PhD Studentships
  • Project grants
  • Equipment grants
  • Programme grants
  • Clinical fellowships

In order to ensure that the funded research is of the highest quality and represents a strategic fit with the aims of the charity, Brain Research Trust has established an extensive process of project assessment by its Scientific Advisory Panel and independent peer review.
