John Lake

In last year’s Annual Review we talked about John Lake who, having survived a brain tumour in 2002, had made the transformation from someone who was, as he put it, “exercise-phobic”, to someone who was able to complete last year’s London Marathon for The Brain Research Trust in a very respectable time.

As if this wasn’t impressive enough, this year he set about raising further funds for The BRT. In addition to presenting talks on his inspiring story, John organised a hugely successful pub quiz, with some fantastic prizes. Having entered a team ourselves (albeit unsuccessfully), we can attest to how much fun the evening was. More importantly, it raised over £1,100. But most of John’s funds came from sponsorship for his next challenge – the Ironman Triathlon in September. The total amount that ‘Ironman John’ has raised is now over £20,000!
