APPEAL OF THE YEAR

This year we focus on Brain Tumours and discuss the research you've helped us with >>

About Us

The Brain Research Trust is an independent registered charity established in 1971. The Trust's aim is to promote and support research into diseases of the brain and nervous system.

A major part of our work is to provide support for research at the world-renowned research centre, UCL's Institute of Neurology (IoN), Queen Square, London. Since the BRT was founded it has given over £30 million to the IoN to help fund their research and PhD studentship programmes.

How do we fund research? The BRT receives no money from the government so we fund research with individual donations and legacies.  Well over two hundred UK-registered Charitable Trusts also support research by donating to the BRT.

In addition, we have an exciting programme of challenge event, including treks, triathalons, bike rides and running events to raise money for research.

Why do our donors choose to support research at the Institute of Neurology? Our donors have looked at other Research Centres and choose to support the Institute of Neurology. In spite of open competition for funds from other disease-specific charities, it’s the excellence of the IoN’s research that wins us our donors. The quality of work supported is ensured by a rigorous process of peer review by our Scientific Advisory Panel.

The BRT depends on its supporters to help us to continue to fund the research into nervous diseases. Remember, a donation to the BRT helps you to help someone you know.

Our annual accounts for the year ending July 2007 are available here (PDF - 109KB).
