India Cycle Challenge - Autumn 2007
India is a land that truly suspends belief and defies description. Stretching from the frozen barrier of the Himalayas to the tropical greenery of Kerala, and from the sacred Ganges to the sands of the Thar Desert, India’s boundaries encompass incomparable variety.
This is a perfect adventure for
the keen cyclist, combining
exhilarating ascents and
descents with some time offroad
and fabulous scenery,
including rivers, small lakes
and fascinating wildlife. Ride 400km from the small town of
Bundi through the Bharatpur National Park and along the
Aravali Mountains. You will pass through colourful tribal villages,
past temples and terraced fields, ruined forts and dense forests.
Temperatures of 25-35°C will provide hot and sunny days of
cycling. Our nights will be spent under a carpet of stars in the
grounds of splendid palaces.
Along the way, there will be the chance to see some of the
country’s diverse fauna, including the Neelgai, or Blue Bull,
India’s largest species of antelope, and deer, peacocks and –
possibly – even tigers. Our journey will end at the Taj Mahal,
the iconic seventeenth century monument that is often
described as one of the seven wonders of the modern world.
